Garrett has no interest in the maidens vying for his attentions. He wants only Julia. With just two weeks left in the season, he makes a bold move by asking her to dance. When she counters with a shocking request of her own, Garrett eagerly agrees.
Soon, they are stealing away for passionate encounters at every society event they attend. Garrett introduces Julia to excitements she never knew existed, and her newfound confidence quickly attracts other eligible men. It's not long before Garrett realizes he must find a way to keep the lady all to himself...
Lady Julia Renwick wants the Earl of Bedingfield in her bed. She’s a little hesitant to ask him to be her lover until the end of the season but she lusts after him enough that she’s willing to risk rejection. When Bedingfield takes her into the garden at a ball and kisses her she sees her chance. Not only does the Earl accept but he wants to begin immediately. But what happens when the season ends and they have to go their separate ways – can they walk away from each other?
This was a short novella that was very sexy and had a great sense of romance. While the author didn’t show us every aspect of the two weeks that the couple was together we get enough to know that the pair is truly falling in love with each other.
Julia is quite taken with Garrett and though she knows they can’t be together permanently because she is older than him and doesn’t feel worthy it certainly doesn’t stop her from feeling more in love with him by the day.
For Garrett’s part he is just so romantic. We’re told he’s a rake but since the story is so short that’s not something we’re shown which is fine – but when he makes his play for Julia it is so touching I just loved it.
From what I understand this is the first in a series by Erickson that will be called the Merry Widows. I’ll definitely be looking for the next book in this series.
